Description: This lesson uses technology for a collaborative note-taking. Through the use of a google doc template, students will organize information on a unit for geometric rigid transformations. Using technology provides students an opportunity to review and revise notes. The use of images in the notes have been utilized for non-linguistic representation of math concepts.
Goals: The goal of this lesson is for students to create a unit outline for rigid transformations. By summarizing key concepts, students focus on synthesizing information. Students will create images with the goal to engage students in the activity and to provide for a higher level task from Bloom's taxonomy.
Learning Targets:
Students will be able to recognize rigid transformations including translations, reflections and rotations.
Students will be able to describe 2 dimensional transformations (translations, reflections and rotations) using words, coordinates and symbolic representation.
Collaboration: Students will use a teacher created template using Google docs. The template will be shared with students. By using the word "copy" at the end of the link in place of "edit", students will make their own copy of notes. In pairs, students will share the template and work together to create images from real life. Students pairs are encouraged to use their cell phones or iPads and collect visual images to import into their document.
